Competition:
Thank you for your interest in competing at the 10th Annual Maryland State BBQ Bash in Bel Air, MD. It’s hard to believe that we are already celebrating our 10th Anniversary! We are planning to make this year very special and are looking forward to welcoming more BBQ competitors, food vendors, and crafters/exhibitors than ever before. Please help us spread the word so we can attract some new teams and vendors to this year’s event.
KCBS COMPETITORS: As always, the contest will include the four KCBS categories (chicken, pork ribs, pork brisket, and beef brisket) and judging will begin at noon on Saturday, August 13, 2011. Total prize money will be $12,500.00. Check-in will begin PROMPTLY at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011 and ALL set-ups must be completed by 1:00 p.m. for inspections. Contestant spaces are located in parking lots. Any/All tents, canopies, etc. MUST be self-supporting (NO STAKES – NO EXCEPTIONS). Electricity and water will be located at the spaces or nearby. Each team will have a maximum of 6 Amps of electricity available to them. Water, as always, will need to be carried from a central sink. NO hoses or hook-ups allowed. This year we are offering THREE set-up options for you to choose from so that we can maximize the space available to us. Your options are: 20X25 ($250.00), 20X35 ($325.00), and 20X45 (for RVs ONLY, $400.00). RVs will also have the option of utilizing SELF-CONTAINED generators. Your completed registration form DOES NOT reserve your space for the event. You will NOT be registered for the event until payment is received. Registration for the event will close Friday, July 29, 2011.
TAILGATE CHALLENGE: The Tailgate Challenge is a pork rib cooking contest to be held the afternoon of Friday, August 12, 2011 as part of the 10th Annual Maryland State BBQ Bash. ALL participants must be at the contest site by 1:00 p.m. and MUST attend a mandatory contest meeting at 1:20 p.m. Only the ribs themselves and a turn-in container will be supplied by the contest. ALL other equipment needs MUST be supplied by the competitors. Over the past few years, the Tailgate Challenge has grown by leaps and bounds. We are also very pleased to say that a few of our amateur competitors have even gone on to compete professionally. The Tailgate Challenge is designed for the “backyard BBQ warrior” who knows that his or her ribs are the best on the block and is ready to prove it! This year we are very excited to announce that a few of our local professional competitors are pitching in to ensure your Tailgate Challenge experience is a great one and maybe even inspire you to compete professionally. We will be hosting a “Tailgate Challenge How To” seminar on June 25th, 9am-2pm, that will include a step-by-step rib cooking process, other BBQ tips, recipes, a catered lunch, and plenty more! The cost of the seminar is $75.00 which includes the Tailgate Challenge entrance fee ($50.00). Space is limited and we are only accepting 40 applications for the Tailgate Challenge and “Tailgate Challenge How To” seminar.
